WAVES is designed to support wellbeing and self-reflection. It is not a substitute for professional medical or mental health care, and it is not an emergency service.
Who we are
WAVES (“we”, “us”) provides a mental wellbeing companion app and website operated from the United Kingdom. Contact: privacy@waves.app.
What WAVES is — and is not
WAVES supports self-reflection, calm exercises, journaling and optional community features. It is not a medical device, therapist, doctor or emergency service. It does not diagnose, treat or cure mental-health conditions.
Information we collect
Account details (email, name, preferences), mood check-ins, journal entries, Talk conversations, AI memory (if enabled), programme progress, community profile and messages (WAVES+), device notification tokens, subscription status, and product analytics events that exclude journal and Talk content.
How we use information
To provide and personalise the app, enforce usage limits on free plans, operate WAVES+ features, keep community spaces safer, improve reliability, and comply with law. We do not sell mood data, journal content, Talk conversations or emotional profiles.
AI processing
When you use Talk or AI reflections, your message is processed to generate a response. Free users receive efficient models with monthly limits. WAVES+ users may receive enhanced models and optional memory. You can turn memory off or clear it in Settings.
Legal bases (UK GDPR)
Contract (providing the service you signed up for), legitimate interests (security, analytics without private content, product improvement), and consent where required (notifications, optional analytics).
Sharing
We use processors such as Supabase (hosting/database), RevenueCat and Apple/Google (subscriptions), and optional analytics providers if enabled. Community features may show information you choose to make visible to other members.
Retention
We keep data while your account is active. Deleting your account removes personal wellbeing data from our systems subject to short backup retention. You can delete your account in Settings.
Your rights
You may access, correct, export or delete personal data, object to certain processing, and complain to the ICO (ico.org.uk). Contact privacy@waves.app to exercise rights.
Children
WAVES is intended for users aged 18 and over. Community matching requires users to confirm they are 18+.
International transfers
If data is processed outside the UK, we use appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses where required.
Changes
We will post updates in the app and on our website with a revised “Last updated” date.
